Tracking Methods
scientists have tracked Southern Elephant Seals by using plastic ear tags and satellite tags on their heads. The tags use light level to determine location and they use digital electronics to gather physiological data. from these tags, scientist have found out that adults migrate twice a year from the island Rookeries, where they breed and molt, to eating areas at sea. tagging elephant seals can help scientist research why and where they migrate.
